A few years ago, I read through some anti-burnout literature geared towards social workers. I was really moved to discover that a major form of self-care that is recommended to social workers is to go out and experience awe. And I’ve been noticing how much of a difference awe makes in my life ever since.

There is something so spiritually rejuvenating about getting to experience awe and beauty, and to place oneself in a new context or a new part of the world. It completely changes how I think. Gives me new things to write about. And makes my problems and the years-old arguments I’m ruminating about just melt away.
