I'm not religious but I do agree that the degree to which Christmas and Christianity have been divorced from the messages of Jesus have left a hollow cultural shell behind in its wake. So many people profess to be Christians yet their actions run completely counter to what Jesus preached -- he was a radical socialist who believed in the equality of all people, opposed fascism, and believed it was evil to hoard wealth. Today we have a holiday supposedly celebrating his birth that is all about accruing possessions and lining the pockets of billionaires, and his name is constantly evoked by people who hate poor people and everyone else whom Jesus sought to support -- sex workers, immigrants, people of color, and more.
