So true, David! I have been having many conversations lately with friends in our 30s about how we spent much of our 20s almost intentionally "forgetting" who we knew ourselves to be back when we were teens, so that we could blend into our chosen professions, social groups, etc. And now after several years of that performance, many of us are at a stage of reconnecting back to who we were as young people again. Of course, all that experience and acculturation does change you, not always for the worse either. Integrating our many selves can be a rewarding process that makes it all less of a mindfuck.
