One of the mutual aid groups that I found in my research now is unable to receive any money from Americans for exactly the reasons you describe -- and the Palestinian Social Fund is only able to thanks to registering formally as a Canadian nonprofit. What a horrible thing to have happen to your friends, it's absolutely terrible... I will make sure to be cognizant of this risk and mention it moving forward when speaking to people about practicing good discernment and finding the ways to contribute to causes that make sense and are doable for them.
