Yes, I did. Ultimately self-reflection, research, and peer-led support groups were more useful than counselors in my case. Relatively few counselors are particularly well-versed in the overlapping aspects of this stuff — there are plenty who know a lot about eating disorders, but most of them are trained primarily with a cis, straight female client in mind. And while there are a growing number of gender therapists available, they aren’t always well versed in nonbinary identities or eating disorder intersections. I’ve had supportive counselors but none have really helped me attain insight into problems, or help me find solutions to them — my own self-work is what lead to really evident and measurable improvements.
