You're right -- most people don't have enough leeway in their lives to do much less than they are already doing. Most of us don't have much control over how much is assigned to us at work, etc. These problems are systemic. Individual people can't fix the crushing pressures of capitalism very well, and it's mostly the extremely privileged among us who do have some leeway to cut back.
